【报告人简介】
仇心诚，北京大学光华管理学院助理教授、博士生导师，北京大学经济政策研究所副所长。2024年获国家自然科学基金优秀青年项目（海外）。2023年获宾夕法尼亚大学经济学博士学位，本科及硕士均毕业于北京大学。他的研究领域包括宏观经济学、劳动经济学、企业动态、经济发展等。研究成果发表于经济学国际顶尖期刊Review of Economic Studies、Journal of Monetary Economics（2篇）、 Journal of Political Economy Macroeconomics、Economic Journal、International Economic Review等。他连续两次获得中国宏观经济国际年会最佳青年学者论文奖，获得中国留美经济学会的学术新星奖、邹至庄最佳论文奖，宾夕法尼亚大学的最佳博士论文奖、院长学者荣誉等多项学术奖项。
【内容摘要】
We document debt aversion and provide evidence that it has cultural origins. Within the United States, households with East Asian ancestry hold less debt despite facing no worse access to credit. Within China, greater historical Confucian exposure is associated with less borrowing, conditional on local credit conditions. Motivated by this evidence, we introduce a nonpecuniary cost of debt into a heterogeneous-agent model calibrated to Chinese household data. The model reproduces key features of the liquid-wealth distribution, particularly the small share of households with negative wealth and the substantial positive wealth held by the bottom half. We use the model to compare the effects of loosening borrowing limits with weakening debt aversion.
